Delta Flight 1849 Free WiFi

I have to be greatful for having two wireless devices on this flight.  I thought that I could only get 30 minutes of free WiFi for each device. I started on my iPAD and when the service expired after 30 minutes I tried to refresh the web page and it still wanted me to pay.  I do not want to cough up $12 bucks for 4 hours of Internet. The service is too slow for streaming music, but at lease I can get on line and read stuff.  I got my net book out of my bag and started session two.  I am now on session three for free. Sylvia and I are on our way to visit her brother in Santa Rosa California.  I have never flown this far in an jet before.  This is the biggest jet that I have flown in. As I close in on my 60th birthday I am glad that my brain can still get the wow factor from doing stuff for the first time. I am writing this blog post on my Asus Eee PC that I hacked the Chrome OS on it.  I really love Chrome OS and I am looking forward to getting my hands on a Samsung Android phone someti

Getting the eyes right For this blog please reference the original drawing below. One of the things that I wanted to accomplish with this project is to learn how to paint using digital tools.  Converting a complex drawing is also a task at hand, but I really want to get good at using Adobe PhotoShop to render a decent image that meets my expectations.  I also wanted to fix a few things that I could not do in the original because of the limitations of the color pencils.  Look at the left eye and notice that I added two eye lashes that I wanted to add in the original but making major drawing changes with color pencils after you have built up a lot of color is near impossible.  This is where traditional painting and digital painting have the advantage, you can apply color on top of color with better results than you can with color pencils. I am also using layers to organize the elements and get the colors and details aligned to give better depth perception on the face.  In this pro

Drawing on my Macbook Pro

Why a really like my Mac.  I just wanted to say that right now I am working with Adobe CS5 Photoshop on a 30 inch Apple display drawing with my 12 x 19 Wacom tablet all powered by a MackBook Pro 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with solid state drives and 8GB RAM.  This is my dream machine and it works as expected. Yeah it has Windows on it and Linux, but I love drawing just on the Mac.  I would buy another one especially now that the Intel i7 is powering the machine. My fist computer was a Mac II.  I when I cracked a solder joint on the mouse input upgraded the motherboard to a Mac II FX for $2,500.  My next computer was a Mac II CI.  After trying to run AutoCad 3D on it and seeing no end in sight for expensive hardware (compared to PC) I switched to the PC world as soon as Adobe and Illustrator running on Windows.  So now I have come full circle back to using a Mac to draw some twenty four years later.

Yikes, I was listening to Mahavishnu John McLaughlin tonight as I was drawing in PhotoShop.  Sometimes I for get what kind of person I was between High school and my first real job.  It is no surprise to me that I draw the way that I do.  I grew up listening to what I now describe as acid jazz.  Miles Davis playing Bitches Brew and the Mahavishnu orchestra were a daily hymn to my spirit. You can purchase a print of this drawing from the Wormley Design  Launi Art Shop .

I am embarking into a new area for my art.  It is an area that I have dabbled in for over a decade.  I have struggled between work and daily life to get to the point of digitizing my color pencil art.  I got a high quality scan of one of my drawings and I decided to take it into PhotoShop and have some fun.  In order to do this work I am using a Wacom Intuos PTZ1231w 12 x 19 tablet and a Apple 30 inch monitor. If you look to the left side of this partial view of my drawing you can see that I am smoothing the colors together.   I took the original file which was 15 x 22 inches and I scaled it up to 40 x 30 inches.  When I am finished I will have another piece of original artwork, but it will be larger and can be printed on archive quality paper or canvas. When I draw with color pencils I can create and think from my imagination a lot better than I can when I work on my computer.  Discovering different ways to be creative is what is great about creating art, sometimes you have to use

100,000 miles

Last week my Dodge truck odometer  clicked over to 100K miles.  I have a2006 Dodge 3500 with a Cumins diesel engine in it.  This is the first American truck or car that I have purchased and I love it.  I have driven this truck from coast to coast and from Oregon to Florida and California to New York.  I love driving this truck and I hope to live long enough to put 1,000,000 on it.

redhat.com | Tips and Tricks Copy Command

Solution: To change this behavior, edit the /root/.bashrc file and comments out or remove the alias line that adds the -i argument to the cp command:# alias cp=cp -iThe changes should take affect when a new user session is started or the /root/.bashrc file has been sourced in the current session.Update:Several astute readers mailed us with refinements for this response. Heres what they had to say:Theres a reason why cp is aliased to cp -i in _roots_ .bashrc and .cshrc/.tcshrc .cshrc and .tcshrc are not mentioned in the original response. After all, do you really want root to be able to overwrite a file without checking? There is a way around the problem that retains the copy protections in roots shell. Heres how:$ \cp -f <filename> <path/to/existing_file>Backslashing the command temporarily avoids the alias done in the shell but does not permanently remove the protection.$ aliasalias cp=cp -i [snip other aliases]$ cd /tmp$ touch test$ touch test2$ cp test test2cp: overwrite

Chrome OS

I have been running the Chrome OS on my ASUS NetBook for about a week.  I really like it and Chrome OS has broken the strangle hold that my iPad has had as my preferred mobile computing device.  The only reason that I use my iPad is because it has 3G built in.  If my NetBook had a 3G option I would use it exclusively. The only thing that I have not found a solution for is a good way to remote desktop to a Windows Server.  I have not explored every application, but I tried a few and they did not do what I wanted.  For now I am going to switch back to the default OS and use the NetBook with Windows 7 Starter Edition.  I like the fact that with the Net Book I can install the major OS of my choice.  I will try to install Linux next.

My Blog was running on my home server, for a few days

My Blog was running on my home server for a few days until I resolved the problems with my site because SiteGround wanted to charge me for a problem that I believe they caused. I will always manage my WordPress configuration outside of the CPANEL Fantastico script wizard from now on. I have my blog sort of mirrored at http://zaramyth.com/lonnie. I'll automat the backup soon. I have had an ordeal with my hosting provider Site Ground.  This is the second major service event that I have experienced with them in my 5 year business relationship.  My first falling out was when they said I had been upgraded to unlimited storage.  when I proceeded to load all of my images to the server they baulked and said that the policy did not include multimedia files.  static images were considered multi media.  I decided to host my own cloud server for my stuff in my home.  since moving to Georgia I have set up my server and it is working great.   I did have to redirect my personal blog to my home se

I am going to be a DJ

Well I added a new category to my blog, Blues.  Why did I do this, well I am going to accomplish something that I have always wanted to do, be a DJ at a radio station.  Not sure why I have never actively pursued this passion until now, but I am doing it now. As a visual artist I have long listend to music as I created art or worked on web sites or other computer projects.  Music has always provided a great back drop for my creativity.  I have also enjoyed attending live music performances.  I wish I could go to more concerts and festivals, but lets say I just love music. So why be a DJ on a radio station when there is all of these digital streams for music on the Internet?  Well good old fashioned radio is a lost art form.  Listening to a live DJ select music from a music library can expose you to new music.  A good DJ can spin a mood or tell a story just by the playlist that he has selected for the show. I want to bring some of the personal interaction and local flavor to my radio sho

Like all of the Star Trek series and science fiction in general I like the way the stories challenge you to think differently about what you think to be real. Sometimes what we continue to believe can be a blind spot to acquiring new information. A lot of scientific breakthroughs in the history of this planet have had to face opposition from the established beliefs that were being challenged by new ideas. Suite: Judy Blue Eyes

Every time I hear this song I think about my brother Vance. We use to sing this song and switch between different parts of harmony. My brother was an amazing musician. We were sort of crazy musically as we were the only brothers in the hood listening to James Brown and Cosby Stills and Nash. We knew all of the words to Judy Blue Eyes.

Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac

Finally broke down and installed MS Office for 2011 on my Mac Book Pro.  Up to now I have only used MS Office f2010 or Windows on my Fusion virtual machine. MS Office 2008 for the Mac was useless for me because the email program Entourage was so bad it was not worth it.  It is ashamed that the most valuable program that MS Makes is Outlook.  Enterprises are addicted to email and use it for everything. So this will be my first week using Outlook for the Mac.  So far it has many of the features that the Windows version has.  It does not have the Access database program, but most folks do not use this program so it is OK.  I will see how long I can work without switching on my virtual machine.

SSH and SCP: Howto, tips & tricks « Linux Tutorial Blog

Specifying a port with scp The scp command acts a little different when it comes to ports. You'd expect that specifying a port should be done this way: [rechosen@localhost ~]$ scp -p yourport yourusername@yourserver:/home/yourusername/examplefile . However, that will not work. You will get an error message like this one: cp: cannot stat `yourport': No such file or directory This is caused by the different architecture of scp. It aims to resemble cp, and cp also features the -p option. However, in cp terms it means 'preserve', and it causes the cp command to preserve things like ownership, permissions and creation dates. The scp command can also preserve things like that, and the -p option enables this feature. The port specification should be done with the -P option. Therefore, the following command will work: [rechosen@localhost ~]$ scp -P yourport yourusername@yourserver:/home/yourusername/examplefile . via SSH and SCP: Howto, tips & tricks « Linux Tutorial Blog .

RSYNC and SSH

I have started to use RSYNC again to backup servers.  One thing that has been a problem with my initial synchronization of data is the dreaded error, Connection reset by peer I believe that I have resolved this time out error by adding the following changes to the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file on the server that is making the connection to a remote host. ClientAliveInterval 300 TCPKeepAlive=yes The ClientAliveInterval will to send data across the connection every five minutes. I know that this is not a good method to use for very long.  I will change this to use this method after my initial server copy is complete. Wormley Photo Archive Gallery 3 is back

Well, after a long absence and much gnawing and gnashing of  teeth with my hosting provider I have reached a solution that gets my Photo Archive back on the Internet.  I started my experience with the Internet back around 1995 with a small HP desktop server and DSL in Portland, Oregon.  I am happy to say that I am back to running my own server out of my home in Albany, GA.  I am using a few new tricks, like Dynamic DNS so I do not have to pay for a static IP address and I am running a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 server instead of a free Linux distribution. Hardware is also using a few new tricks.  I have given the boot to software RAID of Fake RAID.  I have a hardware RAID controller with a OS array 500GB on RAID 0 and the data is on 3 TB RAID5. Hope you check the archive often as I will be loading up all 10,000 images over the next few days.  And I'll be adding new current photos as I take them.

Osama bin Laden Killed: Breaking Details - The Daily Beast . OK the evil bastard is dead.  If the American populace wants to blame Osama bin Laden for all of the bad luck and economic woes for the past 10 years, OK we got him back.  I know this day of celebration for some is no way near the replacement for loved one lost in the 9/11 disaster or the two wars that we are fighting.  I do think that I will have to believe the US government's statement that they did kill him and dump him in the ocean. I think that a watery grave is fitting for Osama since he will not have a place on this earth to mark his grave.  I'm usually not such a warmonger, but 9/11 really got my anger riled up.  The US has done a lot of goofy stuff, but we have also bent over backwards to help just about every country on this planet and look what thanks we get.  So as far as I'm concerned I do not care if the rest of the world does not like us for a few decades because we spent 10 years hunting down the

Call me Mr. Drop

I have ridden on two group rides in Albany, GA since I started bike riding on April 12, 2011. On the first ride last Saturday April 23, I rode from Albany to Dawson which is 54 miles round trip.  I started the ride at 8 AM with five other riders and kept the 18-20 MPH pace with them for about 10 miles before I was dropped.  I happily continued at my pace 17 miles to Dawson took a short break and stocked up with refreshments and rode the 27 miles back home. My second group ride was this evening.  I started out with 6 members of the Heritage Bank racing team.  I kept pace with them for about 5 miles before I was dropped when I could not keep the 23 MPH pace.  I happily rode a 23 mile loop back to my home riding in my aero bars into some mild head winds.  I accidentally rode through the chemical spray from a tractor being applied to the pecan trees that I was riding through. You may wonder why I am going through this sort of training.  Most folks who cycle do not like getting dropped.  Fo

Back in the late 60s and early 70s when skate boards were being invented by crazy fools I was an early adapter.  I made a custom board in wood shop, went to the skate shop and bought two custom trucks (rabbit feet I think).  I lived in the La Jolla ghetto at the time.  Well there was this street called Nautilus Street and I remember biking up to La Jolla Scenic Drive and ride 2 miles dropping from about 600 feet to sea level.  We would do this at night before trash day.  This was old school short board downhill, we had no helmets, no pads and no hay bales on turns.  In fact sometimes during the run we would stand up when we saw trash cans and kick them over to add obstacles for the dudes behind us.  Most of the time I would stay in a crouched position with my elbows between my knees with just enough flex i

First Bike Ride in Albany Georgia

It took over 14 months of living in Georgia before taking a spin on my Serotta Rapid Tour bike.  That is better than the five years it took me to ride a bike when I moved from California to Oregon.  I bent the fron lug on my fork back in austin when we were moving to Albany.  I put my bike on top of my truck in a bike rack and did not put the tire patrially in the windshield to remind me taht a bike was on the rook rack.  I started to drive through a What-A-Burger and my bike hit the warning bar.  I stopped my truck and looked at my bike in horror as I saw the bent fork. Well today I got enough nerve to take it to a bike shop and see how much it would cost to fix it.  The mechanic told me that my ancient 1997 custom Serotta was obsolete and no one made bike frames in inches anymore. So here was the dare.  Since my bike frame was steel he said to bend it back into shape myself. So after work I grabbed my portable vice and bent the fork lug back into position.  I was so eager to ride i

ssh -X finally got CentOS on my Mac Well sometimes the third or fourth time you try something is a charm. I finally got my CentOS desktop to display on my Mac over SSH.  I used this link to make it simple for me. The key missing link is that I finally got that my local machine is the X server and that the remote machine is the client.  Now I can sit outside or anywhere and manage my server using SSH command line or use the KDE Desktop.  All I have to remember is that when the X11 icon shows up on my Mac after I connect to the remote server is to issue the command startkde to get my desktop. How To install Drupal 7 on Fedora Linux

I got stuck for a few house installing Drupal 7 on my server.  I am running Fedora Core 14 with SE Linux enabled.  I usually turn off SE Linux because it is a hassle, but on this server I am leaving it on to practice keeping security tight. During the Drupal install I kept getting write permissions errors on my settings.php file and sites/default/files directory.  I am running my Drupal in a directory out side of the default /var/www/html because I have a large partition in /home.  The steps below fixed my permission problems.  i had to log out of Fedora (using GUI) to see the SE Linux alerts. 4. Step 4: Setup Drupal At this point you should have a DocumentRoot directory ready. In this guide we use /var/www/http. At this point we need to ensure that Drupal installation files have a correct SELinux context. If you have completed step 3 as described you are almost ready to proceed with installation. But first we need to create settings file from the default.settings.php file: # cd /var/w

Why do all of the TV shows that I like get cancelled?

I think I know the answer to this question, but for the sake of this blog I will just write about it.  I mean after all this is what a blog is for, whining about stuff, right? So here is the premise, I like a show, I start watching it, it gets cancelled.  I find a series on NetFlix, I start watching it, I find out it only has a few seasons or worse 5 or 6 episodes because it got cancelled.  I know some of the shows were cancelled because of the film writer's strike in 2007-2008 , but some shows do not get the viewer support and they die on the vine. I know my taste are not mainstream all of the time when it comes to music and film, but it is just sad that so many good shows do not make it long term.  I am going to adopt a new mind set when it comes to cancelled TV shows.  I am going to  start reguarding cancelled TV shows as short stories.  Sometimes a TV series can last too long in my opinion and it loses the edge and the writers get bored and start repeating story lines. Below is

Two Tomcat servers running at once

I have not done this is a while.  I wanted to get Alfresco running on my home server with a preexisting standard Tomcat installed.  It works. Now I want to get Dynamic DNS working so I can start using the Alfresco portal for storing my stuff. I got the Dynamic DNS to work.  Right now I am using DynDNS.org because it is easy to configure with my router firewall.  I am using a NetGear FVS318 as my firewall router and it communicates the changes in my IP address to DynDNS.org. Currently my home server is connected to CI4 and Jenney .  These are the free URLs that I have configured for now.  After we move into the new house I may decide to pay to have my wormley.org URLs linked to my local server.  If I do this then I will be free of the limited storage for image files that is imposed by my hosting provider, Site Ground. I am using Jenny for my Alfresco site and CI4 as a development site to explore web technologies.  If you want to exlpore Alfresco and collobrate on projects let me kno

Remember the path young Padawan

Always remember to use the complete path in your CRON scripts.  The script below will check to see if your server can ping a router, if it fails it will restart your network.  This scripts works on Red Hat based Linux systems like CentOS and Fedora. #!/bin/bash ROUTER_IP=XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX ( ! /bin/ping -c1 $ROUTER_IP >/dev/null 2>&1 ) && /etc/rc.d/init.d/./network restart I am posting this to my blog as a reminder to myself (and others if this shows up in a search) to always use the full path to files when you use them in a CRON.  You can always run the script the command line as some user and it will work.  When you put it in the CRON it will fail. What the heck is a Padawan ?

I have always admired restaurant quality construction and dinnerware. This afternoon when Sylvia and I were eating in a Ruby Tuesday's in Americas, GA I found myself admiring the square dinner plates. I have always noticed square dinner plates. So I decided to search them out on the Internet and post them on my blog as a reference for later shopping use. This Paragon Square Coupe Plate is sure to enhance your tabletop and food presentations.  Also compliments the Dover, Bristol, Coupe and Quad lines and all our other shaped restaurant dinnerware lines. The Paragon Square Coupe white plate is sure to spice up any tabletop. Linux Bugs

I was trying to restart my network on my Fedore14 box with a crontab. I got this error /etc/init.d/functions: line 51: /dev/stderr: Permission denied Apparently I have fallen prey to an official bug Bug 650103 - /etc/init.d/functions: line 51: /dev/stderr: Permission denied I like it when I discover that I am not doing anything wrong and it is the software that is at fault.

Introducing HTML5

I am reading this book with my Safari Books Online account . Introducing HTML5 By: Bruce Lawson; Remy Sharp Publisher: New Riders Pub. I can always have the latest version of the books. I have access to all 14,752 book titles.

HTML5

I am reading up on all of the new changes in HTML5. I am writing this post on a Fedora 14 bot using Blogilo. Thsi is my first time using a Linux Blogging editor to write a post to my blog. Doing this underscores how Blogging has changed how I work and create content. i started writing this Blog in Texas back in 2003 after resisting using the Internet for social purposes. Now it seems that I use the Internet socially as much as I do for business. So why write about HTML5, well HTML is what got me involved with the Internet way back in early 1990. I started learning HTML with NotePad on a Window$ NT box and later ran an Apache web server and used VI to edit my web site. A lot ahs changed since my early experences with Internet technology. I pretty much started using the Internet when browsers and HTML started back in 1989 . It always seems that web browsers were always behind the curve when it came to keeping up with HTML standards. With HTML5 it looks like web browsers ahve fina

I am going to work from an inspiration that has been in my head since my early twenties. I am also using a new approach to how I get inspiration to my drawing board. I am referencing the images in this blog post from the Internet and my own work. I will display this page on my iPAD and view the images to inspire my drawing. Normally artist print or draw small thumbnail sketches to use for reference. This time I will use digital material and display it digitally for reference. I have always wanted a garden railway. Like a lot of my dreams and plans some day never appears on a calendar and the only way dreams become a reality is by getting them out of my head and into the real world. this series of blog post is just that. I am planning my rail road. I will define my ere and all buildings with these engine as a basis for the WGSRR. I love the F5 and F7 engines manufactured by GM. [caption id="attachment_1706" align="alignleft" width="400" caption="Last Exile"] [/caption]I have been watching an anime series on Netflix titled The Last Exile . At first I did not like how the environment was mixed up with historic references to technology that did not fit (at least in my mind). for example, the series has WW2 type flying machines, and large flying battle ships, but no wireless communication technology. I have learned to enjoy anomie and they way that fantasy environments can be pure imagination. It is with this mind

[caption id="attachment_1445" align="alignleft" width="200" caption="Andie MacDowell in L'Oréal ad"] [/caption] I am working on another drawing.  I decided to write this blog entry as I was drawing and then publish the entry when I finish the drawing.  This drawing is another in my Oh My Girls series.  I chose a picture of Andie McDowell from a L'Oréal ad. I started the drawing the first weekend after returning from a visit to my sister's home in New Jersey for the holidays.  I had the blizzard of 2010 fresh on my mind when I was looking through the September 2010 edition of O magazine looking for inspiration.  When I saw Andie's picture I selected it and started to draw.  I had Ground hog Day in my NetFlix queue so I set the movie to start and went to my work. So much of my art work is influenced by the mash up of music and movies that I have slammed into my mind over the years.   Ground Hog Day is one of my all time favorite
