My train layout planning

I like inter-model trains.  The Dash 9 is the engine that I want to base my layout around.  I want to pick a location and industry to model and this layout will have some water involved.  I use to live in Portland Oregon so the Columbia River Gorge is an area that I have considered modeling.  The BNSF trains use this route to get from the west coast through the Cascade mountain range.  When i took my family on week end hikes in the gorge it was really cool to watch the long trains snake their way along the river. I would also consider modeling an area near my current home in Georgia.  The Savannah area is on the Atlantic coast line and the city is also a port.  This area would introduce hipping to the model railroad.  Doing this area would also give me inspiration to take pictures of buildings and dock areas and then scratch build structures for my railroad. In my fantasy railroad I could have the best of both worlds and build a river gorge and a port city based on what ever I want

Black and white history confusion

So when I think about why I love Dr. Pepper, rock and blues music sprinkled with country all I have to do is look at where my roots are from.  Growing up is Southern California I was a real hippie and loved to listen to California country like The Eagles, The Flying Burrito Brothers and the Byrds.  Whe

Atlantic Coast Line Savannah Terminal

View Savannah Terminal -- Railfan sites in a larger map I found this rail fan site for the Atlantic Coast line.  I made a personal Google Map of all of the viewing spots.  the next time i visit Savannah I will check them out and see if I can get some good views of some trains hauling freight.

Painting a train

Image
I am a spray painting fan boy.  I have done airbrushing in the past and will do it again someday.  I found this video of a time lapse of the Norfolk Southern companies paint crew painting the veterans train.  It shows how much work it takes to paint a train.  i like the way they have a pain booth with mobile scaffolding that is on movable tracks.

The Tehachapi Loop

Image
View Larger Map I was looking on YouTube at train video and I found this very nice video of the Tehachapi Loop.  The Tehachapi Loop helps get trains into the central California valley from the Mojave desert. I have a link to a Google map of the loop so that you can see where it is located. this will give you an appreciation of the engineering of the railroad. I have driven through this area, but I have never taken the time to get off the highway to inspect the loop.

Today's juice

Image
What do you see? After I take the glass jar out from the juicer thee is always a cool pattern of colored foamy swirls on the top. This is just like an espresso, but with juice. I try to imagine a picture just like looking at clouds in the sky.
