Snow White and the Huntsman

I went to see Snow White and the Huntsman this weekend. This is not a Disney flick, so do not take your toddlers to see this.  I am not sure if it is a chick flick, but in Albany, GA at the Friday evening 8:30 PM showing on June 1, 2012 there were no males in the theater that were not accompanied by a female.  In fact there were large groups of females in attendance.  Anyway I enjoyed the film especially the evil queen.  You can not have a real hero or heroine with out a truly evil character in a film. What I like about this version of Snow White is that it is a real Grimm fairy tale.  Just like the fist movie and TV versions of Batman got it wrong, but the Dark Knight got it right, so does this version of Snow White get it right.  If the evil queen is truly vain enough to believe that she is the fairest in the land then how do you so how this, well by killing off all of the fair maidens around you. No spoilers in this commentary, go see the filme it is worth a data night with your ho...

Why do all of the TV shows that I like get cancelled?

I think I know the answer to this question, but for the sake of this blog I will just write about it.  I mean after all this is what a blog is for, whining about stuff, right? So here is the premise, I like a show, I start watching it, it gets cancelled.  I find a series on NetFlix, I start watching it, I find out it only has a few seasons or worse 5 or 6 episodes because it got cancelled.  I know some of the shows were cancelled because of the film writer's strike in 2007-2008 , but some shows do not get the viewer support and they die on the vine. I know my taste are not mainstream all of the time when it comes to music and film, but it is just sad that so many good shows do not make it long term.  I am going to adopt a new mind set when it comes to cancelled TV shows.  I am going to  start reguarding cancelled TV shows as short stories.  Sometimes a TV series can last too long in my opinion and it loses the edge and the writers get bored and start repeating story lines. Below is...

Finally after over 20 years on the Internet I have paid for an Internet Radio service.

Lisa Kudrow's Web Theropy

I am so inspired when I discover something that is new and fresh.  I believe that the web is the new media delivery machine that will eventually replace over the air boradcast of entertainment. I alo really like Lisa Kudrow and I am glad that she is doing some good smart satire.

Fooly Cooly Episode 1

Howl's Walking Castle

Image
Last night I watched Howl's Walking Castle .  It was another wonderful animated film by master storyteller Hayao Miyazaki. I love all of Hayao Miyazaki's work ever since I watched My Neighbor Totoro . Howl's Castle is simpley incredible.  There was so much detail in the story and the visuals.  I was was transported to another world and completly forgot who or where I was while I watched the movie.

Sirius Disorder Wake

Today was a sad day for my musical world.  Today was the first day that my favorite satellite radio station was not on the air.  I had come to love listening to Sirius Disorder, but today after the merger of Sirius and XM stations I discovered that Sirius Disorder was cut. I got a Sirius radio when I purchased my Dodge Ram 3500 Cumins.  I had not listened to any radio regularly for about 10 years.  I had grown tired of commercials and had developed a passion for Internet radio.  I grew up listening to free form FM radio in the 1970s.  I remember disc jockeys playing whole sides of albums like Genesis and Santana.  Today that just will not happen.  I remember a station in Pasadena KPPC where the DJs played anything they wanted.  This is how I discovered the music of Frank Zappa. So much to my surprise I discovered a wild free form station on satellite called Sirius Disorder.  I loved it and listened to it in my truck and online 90% of the time that I was listening to music. I will surv...

37 Mile Run

Technical Yesterday I ran from 7 AM to 4 PM and a distance of 37 miles.  This is the longest that I have run to date.  I ran in the Barton Greenbelt in Austin, Texas . The last time I attempted a long 30 mile training run I ran out of fuel and only completed 28 miles.  During that 28 mile run on 10/25/2008 I now know that the lack of fuel for my body directly affects the ability of my brain to focus on running. There are several hurdles that I will overcome in my quest to do my 62 mile run at Bandera in January 2009 . One of these hurdles was how to fuel my body on long runs.  During my run yesterday I tried Spiz for the first time.  I used Spiz exclusively for fuel with the exception of two handfuls of cashews and two sticks of dried sweetened papaya. The Spiz really helped because on my last lap at mile 30 from Zilker Park to the Hill of Life I was able to run the whole way with confidence and energy.  I only slowed my pace to go over the really rocky spots because I really wanted ...

2008 Austin City Limits

Well I went to another amazing ACL festival this weekend.

Breaking Bad

Breaking Bad is another one of my favorite shows. The show is all about making choices and choosing one's destiny. I love this show. I recorded the season finale and just watched it. I normally do not get into entertainment web sites, but I wanted to show my support for this show. What I like about Breaking Bad is the relationship between the main characters and how chemistry plays a role in the show. I do not have cancer but I know what it is to have a life altering illness. This story and the change in Walt’s way of being is why I like the show. The choices that we make are what makes life real. Walt loves chemistry and that is why he is making meth.

Courtney Cox in Dirt

I do not write about video entertainment.  In fact I had to create a new category for this post.  Currently I am watching a recorded Dirt episode and I realized that I really like Courtney Cox .  I did not get into Friends that much but this show that she is executive producer of called Dirt is the best show that I have seen in a long time. What I like about the show is that Courtney Cox plays this hard core magazine editor named Lucy Spiller.  Lucy is bad-ass perky and cute.  I also like the photographer Don Konkey played by Ian Hart .  He is an schizophrenic artist with a camera that case for Lucy like a sister.

Austin City Limits End of Day Three

Image
Rain Hebrew Rap - Matisyahu , Performance Art - Flaming Lips, Classic Rock - Tom Petty more rain and then more Tom Petty . What a day to end the festival. Here is my ACL Day 3 schedule. You can check out all of my cheesey camera phone photos at the Wormley Photo Archive. The Flaming Lips by far impressed me the most on Day three of ACL. The lead singer placed himself inside a giant plastic sphere, walked off the stage, and rolled across the standing fans hands for several minutes as the band played. There were about 40 dancers on stage; half were dressed as Santa Clause and the other half were dresses as green faced female aliens. The crowd knew all the lyrics to their songs as this was a local Austin band. K. T. Turnstall played an incredible set of music. She is a singer songwriter from Scotland that used loopback technology live on stage in a few of her songs. She played guitar and rocked the crowd with her ballads of love and protest. I did not hear the bands that I pla...

Austin City Limits End of Day Two

Image
Here is my ACL Day 2 schedule. Well I finally saw one of my favorite bands, Los Lobos. I purchased their latest CD and got it autographed. I have a lot of Los Lobos music and I have been a fan since the early 1980's, but I have never heard the band play live. I also listened to a band called Murder By Death . This band played what I call teenage angst music. The electric cello player was a young girl with an intense playing style. Phoenix was another band that was nice to hear play. The band was from France but they sang in English. The music was high tech rock with a European flare.

Austin City Limits End of Day One

Image
Well I have to say it was another great day at a great festival. The grass was watered all year by the parks department so there was no dust during the first day. The music was great and I am having a hard time trying to pick who I liked best out of the bands that I heard today. I have posted all of my pictures that I took with my phone camera on the Wormley Photo web site. Here is my ACL Day 1 schedule. I'll start with the last act from Friday's show first as that is what is fresh on my mind. I have been listening to Van Morrison for most of my life ever since I was a teen ager back in the 1970's. Until today I have never seen what he looks like so hearing him perform live was a real treat. Van is a real pro when it comes to stagemanship and his band was really tight. A lot of the songs in his set, both new and old, were arranged with a Texas twang thay only Van Morrison could do with his material. He led the band through some new hits and old hits as they went ...

Austin City Limits Music Festival Day One

Well this will be my third trip to the Austin City Limits Music Festival and Sylvia's second trip. This is a great festival and a chance to see a lot of diverse live music and just enjoy being in Austin. If you ever come to Austin this is an event that you will enjoy. There is music representing the genres of gospel, jazz, country, rock, blues, world beat and electronic. There are name acts like Tom Petty and Van Morrison to Internet radio favorites like Thievery Corporation.
