Zak flew into Houston airport on Saturday December 23, 2006. The first thing that we did on Sunday was to go to a Texan game. We saw the Texas beat the Colts for the first time in franchise history. This was the first time that Zak has attended an NFL game. It was the second time that I had attended a NFL game. I had attended a LA Rams game with my father years ago when I was about Zak's age now (12) The big Stargate Trailer was hold up at the Brazos Bend State Park. We stayed there for a few days and then went back to Austin. On Christmas day we went to Sylvia's son's house for a visit. Zak and I headed for the gulf coast. I wanted to show Zak the town of Corpus Christi. We drove to Goose Island State Park and parked the pig. We did a lot of fun activities like visit the Aquarium, the air crft carrier Lexington and Mustang Island. Houston was the next stop on Zak's whirl-wind tour. This weekend Sylvia and I parked on the bay at Goose Island. We had temperatures in the low 80s and we were 10 feet from a beautiful bay. There were fish jumping out of the bay and large white pelicans swimming right in front of us. This image of the sun rise on Saturday was just to the right of our camp spot. Goose Island State Park is about 20 miles north of Rockport and about 275 miles away from Austin. It took about 5 hours of driving to get to the state park from where we live in the West Lake area of Austin. It has been a good work envorinment for the past year her at HT. Things have changed a lot in the past few weeks with the departure of Bill, JT and now Virginia. I will always cherish the time that this team worked here at HT solving may problems and growing spiritually as a team.

I'm the proud owner of a John Deer 530 tractor.� This tractor use to belong to my uncle Cliff, but it was given to me. Currently the tractor is located at Paig Tractor where it is being repaired.� I plan on restoring the tractor and painting it so that it looks as close to new as possible.� I will use the tractor to haul a cart around the ranch with tools to do work.

I finally have a way to wear my hats again. My daughter Kalia Wormley gave me this really cool cap that she got at Disneyland. I was not able to wear it because my hair was too long and fluffy. I have started pulling it back into two Afro Puffs and now I can wear the cap. The cap has a cool design. It features Chernabog a character from the animated Disney Feature Fantasia . The demon Chernabog was used with the music Night on Bald Mountain which I like very much.

Well this was a very special Thanksgiving for me. It was a time for being thankful for a lot of things. For me it was a time of a lot of first time experiences. For one thing it was the first time that my sister and her family, my mother and my children celebrated Thanksgiving togather. It was the first time that my sister's husband and children have been to the ranch. I have not cooked a meal for a family function in a few years so I was nervous. I fried a turkey and prepared barbeque ribs and brisket. I had never prepared these dishes, but I did it with the help of my daughter Kalia and son Zak. I can not wait to smoke some meat again. This weekend Sylvia and I parked on the Palmetto State Park.� Palmetto State Park is about 60 miles away from Austin. It took about 1 hours of driving to get to the state park from where I live in the West Lake area of Austin. There are more images from the trip on the Wormley.org photo archive web site.

I drove from Austin to Portland Oregon in my new truck and fifth wheel. I visited with my children and did some sight seeing with Sylvia, her brother John and his wife Phyllis. I went through Simi Valley on my way to Portland and visited my mother. My mom and her dog Gidgie are doing OK. We did not stay very long and headed up to Valencia, CA to sleep in a Wal-Mart parking lot. We stopped in a Wal-Mart parking lot twice on our return trip, in Sacremento, CA and just before Phoenix, AZ. Stopping for the night in a parking lot is not ideal but it is free and allows you to sleep and then get on the road the next day rested. The drive up I-5 was really nice and it gave Sylvia a chance to see the miles of beautiful orchards and farm land. When we got over the Siskiyous pass and into Oregon we were treated to a wonderful show of fall colors. ODO is 2167 on October 2. I have been working a 4 day work week so my cycling time has been reduced by one day a week. I rode 328 miles in September.

Well today is a milestone for my cycling in Texas. Today is the first ride in Texas that I have had to use my arm warmers. This morning it was 59 degrees accordiing the National Weather Service. I started working a 4 day work week last week so my bike milage has dropped. Currently my bike odometer reads 2,080 miles. During the past two weeks I have been riding with my helmet mounted light and flashers during all of my morning commute and part of the way home. I also have been riding when a big thunder storm started dumping rain. It felt good to ride in the rain with the air temperature in the 80s.

The lead singer placed himself inside a giant plastic sphere, walked off the stage, and rolled across the standing fans hands for several minutes as the band played. There were about 40 dancers on stage; half were dressed as Santa Clause and the other half were dresses as green faced female aliens. The crowd knew all the lyrics to their songs as this was a local Austin band. K. T. Turnstall played an incredible set of music. She is a singer songwriter from Scotland that used loopback technology live on stage in a few of her songs. She played guitar and rocked the crowd with her ballads of love and protest. Here is my ACL Day 2 schedule. Well I finally saw one of my favorite bands, Los Lobos. I purchased their latest CD and got it autographed. I have a lot of Los Lobos music and I have been a fan since the early 1980's, but I have never heard the band play live. I also listened to a band called Murder By Death . This band played what I call teenage angst music. The electric cello player was a young girl with an intense playing style. Phoenix was another band that was nice to hear play. The band was from France but they sang in English. The music was high tech rock with a European flare.

Well I have to say it was another great day at a great festival. The grass was watered all year by the parks department so there was no dust during the first day. The music was great and I am having a hard time trying to pick who I liked best out of the bands that I heard today. I'll start with the last act from Friday's show first as that is what is fresh on my mind. I have been listening to Van Morrison for most of my life ever since I was a teen ager back in the 1970's. Until today I have never seen what he looks like so hearing him perform live was a real treat. Van is a real pro when it comes to stagemanship and his band was really tight. A lot of the songs in his set, both new and old, were arranged with a Texas twang thay only Van Morrison could do with his material. Well this will be my third trip to the Austin City Limits Music Festival and Sylvia's second trip. This is a great festival and a chance to see a lot of diverse live music and just enjoy being in Austin. If you ever come to Austin this is an event that you will enjoy. There is music representing the genres of gospel, jazz, country, rock, blues, world beat and electronic. There are name acts like Tom Petty and Van Morrison to Internet radio favorites like Thievery Corporation.

Today I rode both ways to work the exact same route. My round trip was 26.31 miles in 1 hour 37 minutes with an average speed of 16.1 miles per hour and a maximum sped of 37 miles per hour. I on my ride to work I got to Lamar in 37 minutes. The total elevation round trip is about 1200 feet. I used my GPS to get the elevation but I want to verify this figure on another ride. There is a lot of traffic during the time school is in session on Bee Caves Road in the morning. The back up of cars and trucks extends from Barton Creek Road all the way to the gas station about 1/8th of a mile from Cuernavaca which is about 3 miles. I can ride my bike from Bee Caves and Cuernavaca to Loop 360 faster than a car can drive the distance in the morning. Here in Texas it was a hot and dry August but as school starts and September starts to roll in the rains age finally starting to flow. I rented an animated film that you may be interested in seeing. The film was written and directed by my favorite animator Hayao Miyazaki . I am sure you know his work as you have some of his films on DVD like Spirited Away. The film that I rented is Porco Rosso and it is very good. You may recognize some of the actors who do the voices like Michael Keaton. The story involves a young woman who helps Porco re-build his airplane. She has an engineering background and the plane is built by all women. The images on the card were taken by me out at the ranch. I have started to take pictures of myself by holding my camera or my phone camera away from me and just taking pictures. I'm starting the month weighing 196 pounds. I started the year of 2006 weighing 225 pounds. Since the start of the year and my participation in the Active for Live program and my own exercise program I have lost 29 pounds. I have done this purely with exercise alone and have not stopped eating what I like. I would suppose that if I were to claim that I was on any diet it would be a beef died. I love beef and after living on the west coast for most of my life I was glad to move to Texas where the fear of eating beef does not exist. My favorite form of beef is a hamburger. I am like the Popeye character J. Wellington Wimpy when it comes to burgers, I could eat one everyday. My favorite source for burgers has to be What-A-Burger and Fuddruckers. I like What-A-Burger because they have a good cheap burger and I can mix a Big Red and Dr. Pepper to drink with my burger. I like Fuddruckers because they use fresh baked bread and I can put lots of tomato slices on the burger.

My ODO is 1893 at the start of week 36 so I rode 116 miles during the week 35. I started August with my ODO at 1202 so I rode 691 miles in August. Yesterday I rode home in another afternoon of 100+ degree weather and I did not want to ride, but I did. That is what I like about bike commuting, you ride when you do not want to ride and then after you start riding you really enjoy it. I ride now as a form of relaxation and a source of energy. Riding my bike is my psycho (cycle) therapy. I am not in a hurry to get places when I ride my bike. When I ride my bike I get there when I get there.

I have not been keeping track of how many miles I run each week. Last night I ran 7 miles in 71 minutes and gained 600 (do not know what it means) in elevation. I had not used a treadmill for running or walking until about a month ago, but it has become one of my favorite workout routine in 24 Hour Fitness. I started running after a 20 year hiatus at the beginning of this year. I started training for a 5K event where I work and now I am running regularly in the gym and sometimes around Town Lake in Austin. I love running on the treadmill listening to music on my iPod.

Well I rode 75 miles in 4.5 hours in 108 degree heat. I did not get to do the full 100 miles because Hells Gate closed at 11:15 AM and I arrived at 11:30 AM. The event coordinators closed it earlier than the scheduled time of 12:30 because of the rising temperature in the area. I averaged 17.9 miles per hour for the first 50 miles. I enjoyed doing the ride even though I was a little disappointed about not being able to ride the full 102 miles. Next year I will make an extra effort to get closer to the starting line with the official pack of riders that are riding the 100 mile course. I rode fast enough to finish the 100 miles but I just got a late start waiting 45 minutes to actually get riding after the official starting cannon blast. My ODO is 1627 at the start of this week. I rode 133 miles in week 33. I am riding in the Hotter Than Hell 100 on August 26, 2006 which is this Saturday so I am taking it easy this week and not riding any intense hills. I do not want to injure myself before the big ride. The temperature that I was riding in during week 33 (last week) was 100+ degrees. Everyday last week was between 100 and 104 degrees except for Saturday which was 97 degrees. I'm pretty sure that I'm in good condition for the 100 mile ride in Wichita Falls Texas. I have been riding every day to work and back and some riding on weekends. I have also been working out at least twice a week and sometimes three times a week at 24 Hour Fitness . So for my morning ride the weather at 7 am is 72 degrees 84% humidity with an expected high of 101 degrees and 34% humidity at 4 PM. The hills are calling my name.

I got a disturbing phone call from my neighbor that owns the property behind the Lone Worm Ranch in Fayatte County. He told me that there was water running down Wormley Lane and it was reaching the Waxsman property to the south on the ranch. I told him to turn off the pump. So today Sylvia and I went out to the ranch to see what was up. What We found is that the pond was full. What we discovered is that there was a leak at the valve right next to the culvert that fills the pond. I dug up the area around the leak and found the place where the pipe was seperated. Once I had the valve expose I cleaned it and re-glued it. I tested the joint and then re-buried the valve. Once the leak was repaired the water that ran through the bubblers on each tree had more water pressure. There is new growth on the trees that happened after the fish emulsion and compost tea application. the trees are doing better. The August heat has parched the land here in central Texas. This is my continuing transformation of my self portrait. The original image was taken in my bathroom with my Canon 10D. I am trasforming the image into an expression of what I feel like and think inside. So why do I see myself as a purple colored person? Well purple is one of my favorite colors along with yellow. If you look at pictures of my bike you can see how nice they look togather. Purple is also the color of the skin of my comic characters the Zulu Aqua Mareens. I also like purple because it is at the end of the visible spectrum of light that we can see with the naked eye. If you look at a color spectrum chart you will see what I am talking about. Purple is next to Ultra Violet waves and they are short so we can not see them. My characters, the Zulu Aqua Mareens change from visible light to invisible light as they travel through space.

Well it took some weekend solitude and focus to finally get my old Movable Type web log entries moved over th the new Word Press blog. For those Googling a solution to a lost MT password here is what I did. I created a new MT installation and copied the password for Melody in the default install into my install using WebMin's MySQL module. I run my own server so I had total control of the process. Funny that I can run a Linux box but I can not keep track of my Blog password.

Well I have gone completely psycho with my Wacom UD 12-12 tablet. I was inspired by watching JT in a meeting draw with his tablet on his Mac using Painter. I thought to myself that I have not fired up my Wacom tablet in years. So this is what I created. Oh yeah it is another version og a digital image that I took of myself a few days ago. What better way to experiment with my Wacom UD 12-12 tablet than to use Adobe PhotoShop and wack an image of yourself. When you distort an image of yourself you can offend no one but yourself. I do not think I could have done this to an image of myself a few years ago. I did not have a very good self image of myself and my self esteem was running low. Now days I am feeling a lot better and have a clear vision of who I am and where I want to go and what I want to create. I designed this card using an image that I took with my Canon 10D. I crafted the card using Adobe PhotoShop, Illustrator and InDesign. I had a lot of fun with the card. I exported it as a JPG file to use on my Blog site. I made the card for my children, Kalia and Zak. I am considering doing a series of cards and using this image as a base.

I am starting the week with my ODO at 1381. I rode 179 miles during week 31. I rode 61 miles on Saturday 8/5 from Mt. Gainer Inn to Wemberly, Texas and back. I got lost as it was a 41 mile ride. I broke my streak of not driving my car to work and drove to work on Friday 8/4. I wanted to be in good shape for the ride that I did on Saturday with the Austin Cycling Association

I have mentioned in my writing about sweating when I cycle. I use the Gutr Sweatband. I truly love this product and could not ride my bike more than a few minutes without it in the Austin summer weather.

Well, I finally decided to get Sylvia, my girlfriend to take pictures of me on my bike. I have been bike commuting to work for about 5 weeks this summmer. I average 20-30 miles a day and about 100-150 miles a week. I am preparing for a 100-mile ride at the end of August in Wichita Falls Texas called the Hotter 'n Hell 100 . When I first got to Texas I could not ride 20 miles during the summer heat, but now I can do it just fine. I did have to make some adaptations to my paradigm for cycling in Oregon to cycling here in Austin. I added two water bottles to my bike. I put sports drink powder in them. I use them to hydrate in addition to using my water bladder on my back I had to give up on cloth headbands to prevent sweat from getting in my eyes. I purchased a gutter guard, which is a plastic headband with a gutter that allows the sweat to drip down the side of your face and not into your eyes. I have gotten use to really sweating when I ride. I use to hate head...

I am starting the week with my ODO at 1202. I rode 139 miles during week 30. I rode 519 miles in the month of July. This is the first time in about 4 years that I am riding my bike on a regular basis.

Today I bike commute 31 miles in two hours and 16 minutes and averaged 13.6 miles per hour. I rode in to work via Bee Caves and Barton Springs and then rode to the gym via Bee Caves and up 360. Weather conditions were High Dew Point Humidity Visibility Pressure Winds 90°F 67°F 49% 10.0 miles 29.89 From ESE 14mph I had trouble riding up Great Hills after turning off from 360. Right afrt I started up the very steep hill (to me) I decided to shift into my Granny Gear and I lost my chain. I was very hot and tired at the time and tere is no shoulder and there was a lot of traffic at the time. I waited for all traffice to pass and put my chain back on and then attempetd to get on my bike to continut the steep climb. I rode 109 miles for week 29.

ODO 1032, totals for the day - distance: 35.48 miles, Time: 2:28, Average: 14.3 MPH total mileage for the week: 87 miles Today I got up at 4 AM to gor to Auditorium Shores to be on TV with the Early Show's weather guy Dave. I rode to town in the dark using my head lamp. The temperature was cooler than my normal moring ride so it was enjoyable. On my return trip home in the evening I continued past Cuernevaca on Bee Caves to HWY 71 to get a few extra miles on my commute. I want to increase my daily milage from 26 miles to 30 or 35 during my week day commute. I am not going to reset my cycle computer after my moring commute as I have been doing in the past. Instead I am going to keep the total daily mileage on my return trip so that I can quickly see how fare I have to ride to meet my daily goal.

Mileage is 967 and I rode 17 miles for the day

Mileage at the start of this week was 766 and now it is 945 giving me a total of 179 miles this week. Yester day on my ride to the gym in North Austin I rode for 58 minutes, 14 miles and averaged 14.1 MPH. Today I will be working at a pond on the Austin Pond Tour so I do not know if I will have the time to ride today. It sure would be nice to get a 21 mile ride in this evening so that I can have my first 200 mile week in Texas. When I'm riding my bike I notice dogs in cars and trucks hanging their heads out of windows. They look so happy and I wonder if my excitement about having the wind blow in my face while I am riding is connected with hanging my head out the window of a car when I was a child. It seems riding a bike can bring me closer to my feelings of youth than most things that I do during the day. Having the ability to power yourself with a bike on flat ground at 18-20 MPH is really cool. Going down a hill on a bike at 35-48 MPH is the ultimate E ticket for me. I remember...

ODO Mileage is 917, trip mileage 13.74, trip average 14.7, trip time 55 minutes. I did not know about Endorphins when I was young. I learned about them in my mid 20s when I was jogging on the Venice Beach in Southern California. I think that another runner explained the process to me about your body producing them when you run or cycle. Yesterday during my ride out to the 24-Hour Fitness gym in North Austin I was really happy to be riding my bike. When I got to the gym I did my usual resistance training but I still had the need to run and get on an orbital aerobic machine. So I guess that I am getting my body trained on getting a dose of Endorphins every day when I bike commute. When I rode my bike to work in Portland, Oregon I got to a point when my body was not happy unless I was riding my bike. Mileage is 890. My ride home was 14 miles in about an hour. Tempertures in Austin are in the high 90s with 85% humidity. I rode through town on 6th and hit Congress to Barton Springs turning on Rollingwood after Zilker Park. I follow Rollingword until it crosses Bee Caves Road and turns into Old Walsh Talgton. I take this through the neighboorhods up to 360 then turn north to Bee Caves ten to Cuernevaca. I like this route because it is very low traffic and has moderate hills. I'm at that point in my bike commuting conditioning that I do not have the need to ride as fast as I can all of the time everyday. Last night I rode home slow through the hills and got passed by two young ladies riding slow waiting for their third friend. This did not bother me and I had a little conversation with them before I picked up my pace.

I suppose that I may be a complete ditz on this, but it is getting very hard for me to tell when I am talking to a live person or a computer with a voice. Today I was on the phone with IBM support creating a trouble ticket for a server and the person that was on the phone sounded so polite yet robitic that I could not tell if I was talking to a human or an andriod. Milage 862. My ride home yesterday was a discovery ride. I wanted to see how Westlake drive went from Rosebud Terrace to 360. My total commute home was 18.33 miles. It took me 1 hour and 24 minutes and I averaged 13.1 MPH. The ride on Westlake was a typical rolling hill affair which for me translates into a training ride. These training rides are rides where I can not get into a real grrove and have to constantly think about going up hill or down hill and shifting my gears. I can not tune out and just be at peace with the ride. These rides are good for my training but I do not want to do them every day especially when it is hot.

Well I finally decided to ditch Moveable Type. I have not moved my old blog files over but if you want to look at the old blog click here.  I liked MT while I was using it but I kept forgetting my password. The real problem is that I have to get Send Mail working properly on my server so that my password can be sent to me via email. So as a typical geek I decided to try Word Press for a blog. I am in the habit now of writing in the morning before I cycle to work so having a blog that I can access is required.

Mileage 830. I rode from work up to the LCRA building on Lake Austin Blvd. I went past it and proceded to wander up the hills past 35th street and Balcones. I eventually turned around and went back to the LCRA building to meet with some friends at Lucy's Boat House for dinner.

Mileage is 804. I just finished a 38 mile ride from my house in West Lake area to the LBJ Wild Flower Center. I went via Cuernavaca, Bee Caves, Barton Spring, Southwest Parkway, William Cannon, Escarpment, SH 45 to the dead end. I then reversed on SH 45 and went to the LBJ WFC. I returned home via MoPac, 360, Bee Caves. My total riding time was 2 hours and 30 minutes and I averaged 14.8 MPH. It was hot and there were 10-15 MPH head winds coming from the south east. I have some head winds and some tail winds. Surprisingly I liked the head winds because it kept me cooler. It is funny that in the Texas heat when you have a tail wind it is the same as riding in dead air so the sweat does not evaporate and you stay hot. When you have a head wind the breeze sweeps across your skin and the sweat evaporates and you feel cool.

Mileage at the start of this week is 766. I am not riding on week-ends so I will adapt my bike commute to a longer evening ride. I like riding during the evening after work as it relaxes me and it gives me something to look forward to during the day. My goal is to ride 100 miles a week during July. I did not make my goal for the first week of July but I will make my goal for the second week. My plan is to ride to work every day like I have been doing a minimum of 13 miles. After work I will do a longer return home like I did riding to the Wild Flower Center wich gives me a 30 mile commute home. If I do this commute twice in one week that will be 86 miles or about 80% of my total weekly goal. My hill training will come when I ride home using the Redbud Terrace route. I do not like riding this route when I think about how hard it is but after I ride it I feel great. During my ride up the steep hills on Redbud I do enjoy the fact that there is hardly any traffic on it.

Milage at the start of today is 753. Yesterday I rode from downtown Austin nort to the 24 Hour Fitness near 193 and 360. It was hot and there were head winds.

Yesterday on 7/5/2006 I took the long way home. I rode from Huston-Tillotson University to the Lady Bird Johnson Wild Flower Center and then home on San Augustine Drive. I traveled on Mo Pac and 360 for most of the trip. The weather was hot and humid. I stopped at the Bicycle Sport Shop and added two water bottles to my bike. I need to carry sports drinks in addition to my water blader on my back for hydration in the hot Texas heat. I am drinking a lot on my rides but the sweat does not evaporate from my skin beccause of the humidity. I am getting use to the fact that riding in Texas means riding when it is hot and humid. My starting milage for the month of July is 683 miles. My total milage for my bike commute on 7/5/2006 was 43 miles. I am excited about increasing my riding distance in preperation for the Hotter Than Hell Ride in August.

Today I rode to the 24-Hour Fitness in North Austin near 183 and Breaker Road. I rode up Shoale Creek Road for the first time on my bike. It was a nice change of pace to ride on flat roads through Austin for a change. I rode about 14 miles from where I work to the gym in about an hour.

Today is the fourth day that I have ridden my bike and the third day bike commuting to work. I am working out on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday in the 24 Hour Fitness lifting weights and running the indoor track. My one way commute is about 13 miles. I have three routs to work and all of them include hills.

I'm working out regularly. This evening I went to 24 hour Fitness and ran 3 miles on the indoor track

Well I could not sleep tonight so I decided to get my password recovered for my blog. I guess when all else fails I can hace stuff on my computer. Sometimes I wonder why I hae more fun hacking on Linux than I do playing computer games. Actually I'm not really very good at computer games and when I'm in the mist or real Linux gurus I'm not a very good Linux hacker, but I like it.

I have been riding around Town Lake here in Austin during my lunch break for the past few weeks. This morning I was planning on riding to work but it is raining. When I lived in Portland I rode in the rain a lot, but I am not sure I'm in the mood for riding in the rain today.
